Scope:
From the dawn of historical and archaeological records to the turn of the 21st century, Sacred History Magazine discusses the panorama of beliefs, faiths, and religions and their impact on our lives today and the lives of those in the past.
Beginnings:
Unannounced and without warning, Sacred History Magazine manifested itself on a flight between Washington D.C. and California. James Griffith and James Rietveld, now our publisher and managing editor respectively, were flying home from the American Historical Society’s annual conference. As they read from the works of the ancient historian Lactanius, 35,000 feet in the air, the idea of Sacred History Magazine came to life.
Once they landed, the magazine itself sprang into existence—a journal which would investigate where history intersects with reality, combining scholarly and popular approaches while engaging in differing points of view to stimulate, educate, and entertain. Drawing upon their contacts in both academia and media, they were able to assemble a top-notch editorial, design and marketing staff to realize their vision and expand upon it.
The popularity of the History Channel, A&E Network, The Discovery Channel, and other documentary outlets demonstrate people’s desire to learn more about the past and how it influences the present. In the day of the Da Vinci Code, papal transitions, worldwide tensions in the name of religions, and sensational archaeological discoveries, Sacred History Magazine is a place to discuss and explore views relating to the history of religion as it intersects other disciplines and perspectives. In Sacred History Magazine we engage in many points of view, mixing and matching, learning from one and other. As your journey begins with Sacred History Magazine, we hope you will join us as we walk with the past, exploring and striving to understand the mystery of all things sacred. |
